Searching in Almagest

The data stored in the Almagest database is classified by the type of data it is: image, object, person, bibliography, multimedia, or text document. When performing searches, you select the type of data for which you are searching, and then provide search criteria specific to that type of data.

To search for data in the Almagest database:

  1. Choose a course (project) from the Project List and click the Go button.
    Note: To return to the Project List page, click the Select Project button in the Almagest header.

  2. From the Explore section in the menu on the left, select Search and then select the type of data for which you are searching.

    Images - digital images of a work or work of art.
    Objects - represents the actual, physical work or works of art.
    People - artists, architects, philosophers, etc.
    Bibliography - references to publications in which database elements are published.
    Multimedia - sound files, video, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
    Text Document - text, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, html, etc.

  3. Enter search criteria in the data-specific fields, or leave the fields blank to search all records.

  4. Click the Search button to initiate the search for data.
    Note: If you are an editor of the selected course or project, you can limit the search to only data elements that are part of the project by clicking the Search 'project' button; to search the entire Almagest repository, click the Search All of Almagest button.

  5. The Search Result List displays, showing the data in the Almagest database that matches the search criteria you specified.
